Company Timeline
A brief timeline of Sungear’s growth is highlighted below.
1980s
1982 John Gizicki founded the Company and started research and development gear work for AirResearch Manufacturing Company, which is currently a division of Honeywell International, LLC
1984 Along with research and development services, the Company starts to manufacture large production runs for three divisions of what is currently Honeywell International, LLC, as well as a local division of Sundstrand Aerospace
1985 Company moved into a larger facility due to high demand
1987 Sungear developed the gears and gearshift for the tilt rotor of the \/-22 Osprey program. The Company continues to produce these products in larger quantities today
1989 Sungear was approved for high precision gear work by the United States Government and was assigned a cage code (commercial and government entity) by Kelly AFB Texas, allowing the Company to work directly for the government. Sungear also acquired a small manufacturing company in Arizona and moved the equipment and personnel to San Diego
1990s
1994 The Company was approached to manufacture critical gears for the repair of the Hubble Telescope (anti-backlash gear sets) and also helped develop the space station latching system for McDonnell Douglas Aerospace
1996 Sungear expanded its manufacturing and office space in order to accommodate the growth in production and operations. The Company purchased its first CAD/CAM engineering system
1998 Sungear expands its quality credentials and becomes NSF AS9100 compliant
2000s
2000 – 2002 Company continues to invest in state of the art manufacturing equipment, resulting in greater production efficiencies, and superior product quality
2006 Company helped develop the turboshaft gearbox for the Boeing A160 Hummingbird, which is a full-size, unmanned helicopter. Sungear also helped develop the control levers used in the Boeing 787
2008 Sungear began manufacturing the research and development lot of the 3 main gears / gear shafts for Honeywell’s water jet propulsion system for the new U.S. amphibious E.F.V. (Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle).
2009 – 2010 Company continues to work with Honeywell on its water jet propulsion system with its third R&D lot
2010s
2014 H-D Advanced Manufacturing Company (H-D) has acquired Sungear, LLC (Sungear), a leading manufacturer of high precision gears and assemblies for the aerospace industry.
